Mano Le Tough / Butter Side Up @ That Old Chestnuts 1st Birthday
Back in August we celebrated our 1st birthday by inviting Mano Le Tough to headline our terrace and for the Butter Side Up from Leeds to host our downstairs. Here’s a video of them closing the night downstairs. The quality isnt fantastic but you get the general jist. Great vibes, thanks to everyone that came.

That Old Chestnut….Gerd Janson & Last Waltz @ The Cooperage
And for our next party we’re be making our debut at a small intimate space on Newcastle’s quayside called the Cooperage. In the 1st room with ourselves will be Running Back head honcho Gerd Janson. Anyone that has ever heard this man DJ will tell you he’s up there with the very best and I’m extremely excited to have him come and play for us. Here’s what RA have to say about him……
GERD JANSON [RUNNING BACK]
One of our most treasured Academy team members, Gerd Janson is the quintessential DJ’s DJ, unearthing the gems that get other music lovers hot and excited. The man has his plate full. Whether at the helm of the long-running Liquid club night at Frankfurt’s Robert Johnson with DJ comrade Thomas Hammann, dishing out simmering analog House as co-owner of label Running Back, or penning many a story for Germany’s Spex and Groove magazines, not to mention his scholarship of American studies, he seems to run on more powerful batteries than the rest of us. Enjoy this adventure through magic dance music new & old, with special guest appearance by Kool DJ Pink Alert. It’s risky, but it’ll make you frisky.

THAT OLD CHESTNUT….BICEP @ THE DEN, NEWCASTLE

After the success of our opening party with Cottam et al. We’re back this autumn this time in the cozy confinements of the Dens backroom, the Kitchen, with young upstarts Bicep. This is there first trip to the northeast so we hope to make it a special one indeed.
BICEP (Throne of Blood)
Ian Blevins (We Love/ Future Disco/ T.O.C)
6th Finger (Warm/ T.O.C)
Bicep – Biography
Bicep are a duo that hail from Belfast, brought together through a common obsession with all things analog. Their blog, Feel My Bicep, has grown to be the first port of call for those searching for cutting-edge and hard-to-find disco (nu and old) / chicago-house / detroit techno / italo / edits and the like. Growing with an amalgamation of jazz, rock and funk helped Bicep form an obscure approach and understanding of music. After each picking up a pair of Technics turntables in their early teens, Andy and Matt set about collecting records and experimenting to find their own style. Skip forward several years and countless DJ gigs and they realized they needed to make their own brand- succumbing to, as Bicep describe it, “80s inspired analog house“
Their first 12″ on Citizen Kane’s Ghost town records sold out within a week gaining worldwide support, whilst their debut on New York’s Throne of Blood records, was among the most downloaded tracks on xlr8r.com (currently still highest rated) topped the charts on boomkat.com, and also made Tim Sweeney’s Favorite LP’s and Singles list over at Beats In Space!
In addition to a busy schedule producing original tracks (look out for Bicep’s EP2 coming early 2011 on Throne of Blood, and forthcoming releases on Mystery Meat and a host of other labels), remixing, and DJing around Europe, Asia, and the US, Bicep along with their co-pilot Rory find time to update their, FEELMYBICEP.com, providing a window into the singular aesthetic that is Bicep.

The Kitchen is the 2nd room of the underground club, The Den, which is in the heart of Newcastle. For this special night, we are not opening the main room, but looking for a more intimate party.
The Kitchen would not look out of place in Berlin, London or Leeds. Just like Public Life in London, the kitchen is an unique venue which is small but perfectly formed atmospheric room which has 3 redlights and the decks set up on a Fridge.
