About Ian Blevins
2009. Theorists are predicting this will be the year of the Blevins. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. The start of the year sore Ian played at one of the Australia's talked about festival, Playground Weekender as well as playing alot of Sydneys top venues including Ladylux, Favella, The Loft, including playing on the same bill as Norman Jay and the Unabombers for the Good Times weekend. On top of this Ian was responsible for warming up for Crazy Penis on their Australian tour.
Rather than rest on his laurels after a hugely successful summer season in Ibiza – his fouth consecutive summer on the White Isle – Ian has returned to the UK for a series of special guest appearances and to spend time in the studio before heading down under with plans to conquer the Asian and Antipodean audience. After touring Australia and having gigs up and down the country in the UK, Ian returned to Ibiza to take up his residencies at We Love Sundays at Space, Azuli and their secret beach parties, Lo Cura and many more of the best and musical diverse venues around the island including new kids on the block Ushaia, Delano and Amante. On top of this Ian topped off having his first production released on local label City West Records by playing at Space Closing party to a packed terrace. After returning back to the UK to play at some the countrys top venues Ian will be heading East again back to Australia where a NYD's Space 20th Anniversary is all ready on the cards.
Under his belt and in his suitcase, Ian is packing some serious musical artillery. House, disco, broken beats, Detroit techno and soul, all tried and tested at the most serious musical institutions in Ibiza - if not the world - from a weekly residency at the legendary We Love… Sundays at Space (gracing the decks of the Terraza, Premier Etage and El Salon) and the much-heralded series of secret AzuliBeach parties to music industry insider hangout Lo Cura and iconic sunset institutions Café Mambo and Sunsea Bar.
Upon returning to the UK, Blevins has scored some seriously enviable gigs, including Secret Sundaze at Newcastle’s Cosmic Ballroom, Azuli at The Cross and Automatica at Bar Rumba in London plus a residency at Ward 10, a long running underground night in Sunderland.
Not bad for a guy who only purchased his first set of decks in 2002.
After a thorough education on all things house during his teens, Ian’s career behind the decks kicked off with a few house parties, followed by a weekly residency at Durham’s Jimmy Allans and Saints, now known as Warehouse. As he gained more exposure to club nights in the region, Ian’s taste of music began expanding and developing even further, encompassing the many different sounds he continues to be influenced by today.
In 2004, a delicately crafted and long anticipated exclusive cassette mix grabbed the attention of those in-the-know and earned Ian a runners up place in the highly respected IDJ magazine reader’s mixes awards.
From here, Blevins began, with friends, running his own club night in Middlesbrough and around the North east called the Ghetto, a night that has produced some of the most memorable parties the North East has ever seen with guest DJs including DJ Camacho, Quentin Harris (UK debut), DJ Spen, Karizma, Frankie Feliciano, King Britt, Theo Parrish, Ron Trent, Moodymann and a massive one off event with Body and Soul Legends, Joe Claussell and Danny Krivit as well as co-hosted a series of outdoor events with Fatdog Records, which saw Maurice Fulton, Benji B and Marcus Worgell grace the decks.
In his time on home soil, Ian has also played on the same bill as …… for DJs including Erick Morillo, Sandy Rivera, Ashley Beedle, Dixon, Tom Middleton, Jo Mills and the Unabombers, to name a few. It has been the musical mecca of Ibiza however, where the young Blevins has really been given the chance to shine.
His debut season, 2006, saw him hook up with house legends Mn2s and Azuli, where he was given the opportunity to play the infamous Bora Bora Beach club and Savannah. Along with regular guest slots at Coastline and Bling Bling in Ibiza Town, Ian also played weekly shows on Holiday FM’s El Divino hour.
A return to Ibiza in 2007 saw Ian hold a weekly residency at Space for Azuli Records, treating the backroom to a wide range of eclectic electric records every Friday night. A busy season topped off with the opportunity to play the Premier Etage for We Love... Sundays’ closing party – giving Blevins a taste of the year to come.
